“Today we begin that series of six Sundays that lead to the celebration of the resurrection of our Lord on Easter, the season of Lent. For those who observe Lent, it can be helpful for our worship to have a distinct focus during these seasons. So we are focusing this spring on certain realities in Jesus’s life. Today we look at the beginning of Jesus’s public career and what must be true for us since he began as he did. Next week we’ll look at what it meant to him and means to us that he was Jewish. Today our focus is on Jesus’s introduction of himself to a world gone mad. The world met Jesus in a situation where either the world was right, or God was, and Jesus thought God was right.”
